Uniform Resource Locator (URL)
A URL is a web address. The URL is split into several parts:
- Protocol: http:// (this means hypertext transfer protocol).
- Domain name: which is the address of the server where the resource is located i.e ‘www.kogarahhigh.edu.au’. This domain name can be replaced by an IP address which is just numbers.
- File path: which tells you where on the server the file the file is stored. I.e. /bettsipt/12ipt/index.html/. This tells you that on the previous server ‘www.kogarahhigh.edu.au’ that there is a folder called ‘bettsipt’. In the ‘bettsipt’ there is another folder called ‘12ipt’. Inside that ‘12ipt’ folder is a file called ‘index.html’
