What do you think of "Klik and Play"?

Klik and Play is a gamemaking program much like Gamemaker.
The game can be downloaded free here:

Which software do you think is better? Gamemaker or Klik and Play?

Graham

Thank you for assembling an excellent set of materials. Readers will find a wealth of teaching resources if they delve into the links.

As for which language I prefer, I started with Gamemaker so maybe I'm biased. I have had kids as young as grade 1 make their own games so   Gamemaker is easy enough at the entry level and I like the idea of giving them the full product rather than something dumbed down. For me its got something to do with respecting kids unlimited potential for discovery and growth.

I note however that some well respected teachers prefer Klik&Play for primary Schools and Gamemaker for secondary

I am a teacher who has used both, and personally favour Klik & Play for younger or lower ability high school students.  From my experience if you are teaching game making to a whole class of primary students (up to 30 kids at a time, rather than those who have self selected into a computer club), a significant number seem to need much more support to use Game Maker.  Klik & Play seems much more accessible to lower level kids, and is quicker to get started.  Its Step Through Editor helps children to gain a better understanding of Events, and then the step to Game Maker is much simpler when/if they outgrow Klik & Play.

Another concern I have about Game Maker for very young students is that they may become sick of it before they have matured sufficiently to understand many of its deeper features.  If started in year 3 (especially if poorly taught), it could be very hard to get them to return to it to appreciate its deeper features in year 9 or 10.

I have quite an extensive list of resources for Klik and Play at http://www.mindtools.tased.edu.au/knp that you are welcome to link to.

The ridiculous, impossible goal is meant to challenge and inspire! It's a number that I can hardly imagine actually hitting, but which may sort of be in the realm of possibility if we get a bunch of people outside our little community on board. Every person making games will be essential to meeting our goal! This strategy worked very well for the original Pirate Kart, so I'm hoping that lightning can, in fact, strike twice.

That said, I think I might know enough about the Klik & Play .IMG format to write a tool that randomly tweaks the palette of images in Klik & Play games. Then we can put the same game in the collection dozens of times, just like a real pirate cart!
